Darryl Gamble and longtime partner Ed Coviello met 37 years ago. Darryl was managing a clothing store on West 72nd Street in New York and ready to open his own place. Ed was a special education teacher.
“Darryl has a great personality—people really like him,” says Ed. “The store he worked at had a branch on Madison Avenue. Customers would go to the Madison store, try things on, then be sent to the West Side for Darryl’s approval. So, we thought we’d try it for ourselves.”
Darryl’s Boutique began in 1986 as a small women’s clothing boutique on New York’s Upper West Side in Manhattan providing affordable chic style. The shop was opened out of a love of what is now often called Styling—putting women together from head-to-toe in a manner that is both stylish and affordable. The store is a mecca among many looking for a wardrobe that is chic, versatile, affordable, and flattering.

Darryl’s has grown to encompass three large storefronts and many more clothing options. Women come from all over the city and globe to be dressed by Darryl Gamble.
In the early days the Darryl’s client was a career woman who needed clothing that projected professionalism at work, yet was still stylish when worn on a date, to dinner or a gathering. Today, that same working woman and mother comes in with her daughter, her sister, and friends that she wants to share the Darryl’s vault with.
Darryl's is well known for outfitting all women no matter what the occasion. He'll find the items that fit you perfectly or he won't let you purchase them! Sometimes known as the neighborhood "Dress Stop" Darryl’s stocks a wide selection of dresses for day, evening and more formal occasions and is the ideal place to go for a last minute "fashion emergency."

The thing that sold me initially on the store was Darryl's service, and the quality and value are also good. You can go in the store and tell Daryl what type of outfit that you're looking for and he'll come up with several things for you to choose from. I appreciate that because it saves time, but more importantly, I don't have a good fashion sense and I can count on Darryl to tell me what pieces go well together, and also what looks good on me. As another reviewer said, Darryl is honest about what works and what doesn't work. The styles that the store has are classics that you'll be able to wear for a long time, but with a bit of stylishness or edginess to give people a unique look. The clothes are of high quality, so when you find something you love, it lasts. And the price points are affordable (the shop also maintains a small sale rack with great buys). I'm into comfort, so I've found amazing skirts, sweaters, blazers, trousers and coats at Darryl’s. I've also found great dresses. But I can see that if I were a young professional I could find suits and silk blouses, etc. My strong recommendation. Make Darryl's a destination. You will get so many compliments and feel so good. The shop is large enough to give you a selection, but small enough to be comfortable. The staff is helpful, and if you're lucky, you can meet the proprieter, Darryl. Darryl's is a winner!”

“I wandered past their store one day and saw a sign announcing the prices were 50% off. That, of course, drew me in, but the service was what kept me there. I thought I found something nice, but the women knew their selection so well they found interesting styles for me that I never would have tried on my own. They made me look GOOOOOD! And that's not always an easy trick since I don't have a model's body. It was friendly and fun—they even have nice shoes in the dressing rooms so you can see what you look like in good shoes and not snow boots. They helped me find clothes that make me feel young but not ridiculous :) I will definitely go back!”
